According to one oft-repeated story, Weir wanted to play with these sorts of anxieties during the film's theatrical run: The idea was to have a video camera installed in every theater, then have the projectionist abruptly switch from the movie to a shot of the viewers themselves.

According to one oft-repeated story, Weir wanted to play with these sorts of anxieties during the film's theatrical run: (a)//The idea was to have a video camera(b)// installed in every theater,(c)// then have the projectionist abruptly switch from the movie to a shot of the viewers themselves.(b)

a部分oft-repeated中的oft为副词,表示“时常”,“经常”,类似于often,但是区别是oft常和过去分词连用构成形容词,比如“The Foreign Secretary's views on the treaty are well-documented and oft-repeated...”(外交大臣就该条约发表的观点有大量记述并被屡屡提及。)

run做为名词的时候意思较多,常见的有in the long run(从长远来看),而本句中的意思却是表示“ (演出或电视节目的)上映期,放映期”,比如“The show will transfer to the West End on October 9, after a month's run in Birmingham...”(演出在伯明翰上映一个月后,将于10月9日转到伦敦西区。)

b部分abruptly为副词,形容词为abrupt,表示“突然的,意外的(常指令人不快的改变或行为)”比如“Rosie's idyllic world came to an abrupt end when her parents' marriage broke up...”(父母婚姻的破裂使得罗茜田园诗般美好的世界陡然画上了句号。)

b部分shot作为名词,常见有两个意思,比如“射击;开枪(或炮);枪(或炮)声”,比如“The man fired several shots from his pistol.”(那个男人用******开了几枪。)除此之外,在本句中表示“(电影中的)镜头”,比如“the opening shot of a character walking across a desert”(影片开头呈现一个人穿越沙漠的镜头)

According to one oft-repeated story, Weir wanted to play with these sorts of anxieties during the film's theatrical run: The idea was to have a video camera installed in every theater, then have the projectionist abruptly switch from the movie to a shot of the viewers themselves. Was this really under consideration? "It was probably a joke," Weir says now. "I think what's been lost is the 'Hahaha' that followed that thought. That would show that I was turning into Christof." Both he and Niccol are amazed by the film's endurance. As Niccol puts it: "I guess I'm most surprised that while Truman was running from cameras, most of society was running towards them."
